Celebrating Two Generations of Women in Karaikudi Tradition
This year, Chandramouli's mother Veenai Lakshmi Ammal, eighth generation in the Karaikudi Veena Tradition, will complete one-hundred years in our memory. Chandramouli's sister and Sreevidhya's mother, Rajeswari Padmanabhan of the ninth generation completes eighty years had she continued her journey in her arduous musical path. Both women have contributed immensely to our tradition, and are survived by their numerous students from all corners of the world. For further context on the importance of Veenai Lakshmi Ammal and Rajeswari Padmanabhan in our lives, please read Sreevidhya's essay (parts 1 and 2).
Please note that this is a highly interactive and participatory event in which our students play a central role. The day will include performances, workshops, reminiscences, AV presentations, and much more!
